Staff Development

Breaking new ground, Building lasting legacies

The firm’s policy will provide a framework in which Heritage Construction Company (Pvt) Limited will function. Adoption of this policy ensures that the Human Resources Training and Development function is strategically integrated with the business operations.

The Training & Development Philosophy

It is the strong belief of the organization that training and development has to be:

It is important to align all training and development programs with needs based on position requirements, the tasks to be performed, and based on the performance gaps of the incumbent. The primary objective is to improve skills, knowledge, attitudes and values. These are to be specific and must at all times indicate what the staff member should be able to demonstrate. At all times the individual department needs must be aligned with Heritage objectives in order to achieve the maximum benefits.

Here the emphasis is on outcomes, i.e. what the employee becomes and understands. The direct aim is to develop analytical thinking, improved attitudes, understanding and mastering skills. The main focus therefore is on the results expected at the end of a learning process, called the outcomes and the processes that will take the employee to these ends.

This is based on the identification of operational training and development needs, emanating from the strategic plan and the objectives of the group. Learning modules, with specific competencies, should be designed for maximum benefit to the group.

Heritage’s most important resource is our employees. We therefore place a lot of importance on staff development. We have a program where we attach semi-skilled employees to qualified artisans for training until they qualify as artisans. The company has also extended the staff development across the board to facilitate multi skilling and growth for all employees across the organisation.

We also provide work-related learning to undergraduate students from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Zimbabwe, Faculty of Built Environment at National University of Science and Technology and the Department of Civil Engineering at the Harare and Mutare Polytechnics for on-site training.
